Labor Day Weekend in Kitsap:
The Bremerton Blackberry Festival
If you’re new to Kitsap County, here’s a bit of local knowledge worth having: Labor Day weekend belongs to the blackberries.
The Bremerton Blackberry Festival takes over the Bremerton Boardwalk every year, and 2026 is no exception. This year’s dates are Saturday, September 5 through Monday, September 7, with the festival running from 11 a.m. each day (closing at 8 p.m. Saturday, 7 p.m. Sunday, and 6 p.m. Monday). It’s free to attend, right on the waterfront, and an easy walk from the Seattle–Bremerton ferry if you’re bringing friends or family over from across the Sound. If you’re coming from Port Orchard, the foot ferry docks right at the festival — no need to deal with parking at all.
What to Expect
This is Bremerton’s longest-running festival, put on by the Bremerton Rotary Foundation, and it’s grown into one of the biggest community events of the summer. Expect:
● Blackberry everything — cobblers, pies, donuts, ice cream, wine, jams, and sauces from local vendors
● 150+ vendor booths lining the Boardwalk, selling handmade goods and berry-themed merchandise
● Live entertainment throughout the weekend
● “On Your Berry Way,” the kids’ stage and craft area on 2nd Street, with magicians, stilt walkers, and circus acts
● A beer garden and plenty of spots to sit and take in the view of Sinclair Inlet
Proceeds support the Rotary’s local community work, including scholarships and service projects — so it’s a good weekend to shop local and eat well for a cause.
Why I Bring This Up
After 25 years selling homes in the area, I’ve learned that weekends like this one tell you something about a place that a listing sheet never will. When clients ask me what it’s actually like to live in Bremerton — not just the commute times and the shipyard, but the feel of the community — this festival is one of the first things I point to. It’s the kind of event where you run into neighbors, watch your kids get lost in the craft booths, and remember why waterfront towns are worth the ferry line.
If you’re considering a move to Bremerton, Port Orchard, or anywhere else in Kitsap, this is a great excuse to come see the area in its element. And if you’re already a neighbor here — I hope I see you on the Boardwalk.
